PhotoCraft PSD compatibility: what to check

Inspect PSD layers, text, gradients, effects and round trips. Keep the original and compare a reference.

The simple raster PSD fixture passed a browser round trip. Layered Photoshop documents, type, gradients, smart objects and cross-application fidelity remain untested. Read the test record for evidence and limits.

Opening is not the same as full fidelity

PhotoCraft is early alpha software. A PSD opening is useful evidence, but does not establish complete Photoshop compatibility. Documents can combine blend modes, type, effects, smart objects, adjustments, masks and color settings in different ways.

Keep an untouched source, a reference image exported by its author and a separate test copy. Never make a browser round trip the only copy of an important PSD.

Inspect the parts that matter

PartWhat to compare
Raster layers and masksNames, order, visibility, edges and mask boundaries.
TypeFont substitution, line breaks, spacing, baseline and editable state.
Gradients and effectsStops, angles, opacity, blending, strokes and shadows.
Smart objects and filtersAppearance and whether the original structure survives.
Color and transparencyProfiles, alpha edges and differences against the source application.

These are inspection categories, not claims that every feature is supported. A discrepancy is a reason to retain the original and use its source application for that part of the workflow.

Read specific upstream issues

Issue 2976 concerns text pasting and issue 3028 concerns a PSD gradient case. Their status can change. Read the issue and reproduce its document before assuming a release fixes it.

This site does not label those cases resolved. Our test record covers only named fixtures and operations, not the entire PSD format.

Check the round trip separately

  1. Open the PSD and compare its initial appearance.
  2. Make one small visible edit.
  3. Download a saved document copy and a flattened PNG.
  4. Reopen both and compare the expected change.
  5. If interchange matters, open the saved file in the receiving application as a separate test.

The browser and desktop build can have different constraints. Success with one simple document cannot predict every interchange case.

Based on the official web hosting guide and v0.7.0 source documentation. Independent guidance; keep original files and verify your outputs.
